What is Universal Design?
Universal Design, a term coined by Ron Mace of the Center for Universal Design at North Carolina State University, is the process of creating products that are accessible to people with a wide range of abilities, disabilities, and other characteristics.
The center defines Universal Design as "design of products and environments to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for adaptation or specialized design."
The intent of Universal Design is to simplify life for everyone by making products, communications, and the built environment more usable by people of all ages and abilities.
Principles of Universal Design
